MFL
Subject intent
Language learning at HPA provides students with an immersive love of language that evokes passion, cultural awareness and communication skills to access the wider world. We create learners that are resilient, open-minded language detectives, empowered to communicate in reading, listening, writing, translation and speaking with self-agency.
Our curriculum is cumulative, designed around key building blocks of language which are essential for pupils to be able to communicate independently and spontaneously in the target language. Sequencing is carefully thought-out to introduce students to progressively complex grammatical structures, so they can build on their knowledge and develop their ability to independently manipulate the vocabulary, structures and rules they are learning. For example, they are gradually introduced to a wider variety of verb tenses, interspaced with opportunities to revisit and consolidate those they have already learnt to conjugate.
