Students complete Duke of Edinburgh trek in the Quantocks
Twenty-two Year 10 students from Hans Price Academy have successfully completed their three-day Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award expedition, navigating the stunning but challenging terrain of the Quantock Hills.
The adventure began at the World Wildlife Trust site at Steart Marshes, with students making their way to Moorhouse Farm to camp for the first night. On the opening day, they followed a variety of routes that passed the dramatic and ever-evolving landscape surrounding Hinkley Point.
Day two presented a greater challenge as students navigated through the wooded hills of the Quantocks to reach Triscombe Nurseries. Their final day concluded at the historic Fyne Court, once again using different routes and showcasing their navigation skills.
For the Year 10 geography students, the expedition offered a unique opportunity to revisit the river they had studied just a week prior, bringing their classroom learning to life.
Evenings at the campsites were filled with camaraderie, as students enjoyed games of rounders and kick rounders, followed by traditional s’mores and toasted marshmallows around the campfire.
A huge thank you goes to Sandra Cox, Jenny Green, and Mr Edy for their dedication and support in staffing the expedition.
A spokesperson said: “It was inspiring to see our students push themselves both physically and mentally in such a demanding environment.
“They demonstrated incredible teamwork, resilience, and enthusiasm throughout – truly embodying the spirit of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.”
