Hans Price celebrates World Book Day

Students and staff at Hans Price Academy embraced fun and laughter as they dressed up to celebrate the annual nationwide initiative, World Book Day.

Characters from beloved stories filled classrooms and corridors, with a range of wild and wacky costumes spotted throughout the day. The celebration brought books to life, encouraging students to share their love of reading while showcasing their creativity through imaginative outfits.

Members of staff also joined in the fun by dressing as characters from books. This allowed students to take part in a special Character Hunt, challenging them to identify more than ninety staff members in costume and discover the books that inspired their outfits.

Students also took part in a book-themed quiz within their learning families, while books were celebrated, recommended, read aloud, borrowed and shared throughout the day.

Every student had the opportunity to collect a free World Book Day book from the school library, as well as receive a World Book Day token to spend at local bookshops.

The day proved hugely popular with students, who shared their excitement about the celebrations.

One student said: “This is the best day of the year!”

Another added: “Everyone looks magical. This is the best.”

A third commented: “Everyone is so much happier today. Every day should be World Book Day.”

One student even left inspired to pick up a book later that evening, saying: “I’m going to read tonight now.”

Rachel Allchurch, Raising Standards Leader at Hans Price Academy, praised the enthusiasm shown by staff and students.

She said: “I was overwhelmed by the effort and enthusiasm that the staff at Hans Price put into supporting World Book Day.

“Celebrating reading while taking pressure off families and students to find costumes has always been an aim of the academy, and it has been wonderful to see the joy it has brought to our students.

“To see so many students leaving with their own new book and borrowing additional books that they have heard about throughout the day, is what today is all about.”
