Year 9 – Options Letter
Dear Parents/Carers,
As you may already be aware, Year 9 students are currently going through their GCSE options process. Over the next few weeks, we will provide information and opportunities for your child to help them make decisions on which subjects they would like to continue to study in Year 10 and 11. This letter will give you an overview of how your child will be supported during this process.
Students have already had an introduction assembly and have been given access to a Google Classroom page which provides videos for each of the options available. At GCSE, all students are required to take English Language, English Literature, Maths, Combined Science, Core PE and SPACE; however, students can choose 4 additional subjects from the available “pathways”.
To support your child through this process, we encourage you to:
- Explore the subject videos and resources in their Google Classroom with them.
- Read and talk through the Guided Choices Booklet when it becomes available. We will notify you how you can access this via the school website.
- Talk through their goals, future career aspirations, strengths and motivations behind their decisions.
To help your child make informed choices, we are providing the following opportunities:
- You will have been able to discuss the options with your child’s teachers at Parents Evening.
- We will hold an Options Evening, either via Teams, or in person, depending on the Covid guidelines.
- Your child will receive a 1 to 1 meeting with a member of staff in school to guide them in any areas they feel uncertain. We aim to encourage choices in which they can excel and achieve their true potential.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions about your child’s options.
Yours sincerely
Miss C Dale
