Year 8 HPV Student Letter – January 2024

Dear Young Person

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for boys and girls

The HPV vaccine that protects against several types of cancer is being offered to you at school. The vaccine will be given as one injection in the upper arm, this is usually given in Year 8.

The HPV vaccine helps protect you against the human papillomavirus (HPV), this virus increases the risk of developing some cancers later in life, such as

· Cervical cancer

· Some mouth and throat cancers

· Some cancers of the anus and genital areas

The HPV vaccine does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections.

The leaflet https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/hpv-vaccine-vaccination-guide-leaflet includes more information about the vaccine.

It is important for you to discuss the vaccinations with your parent/ carer, they have been sent a consent form for you to receive the vaccine. Please encourage your parent/ carer to complete the online consent form whether they do or don’t want you to receive the vaccination. If your parent/ carer does not complete the consent form ahead of the session we may not be able to vaccinate you at the school session.

Please note the consent link will close two working days before the school session.

If you have any questions, please contact the Immunisation Team at [email protected] or 0300 1245515

Yours Sincerely

Karen Evans
