Year 11 Update

Dear Parents/Carers,

I wish you a happy new year and I hope you had a lovely Christmas break. I wanted to write at the start of term 3 to provide you with the below updates and reminders ahead of the summer exam series.

Year 11 Roadmap – Updated Version 3

Please see an updated version of our Year 11 roadmap attached to this letter. You will notice the following updates:

  1. Our Prom date and location has been confirmed. Prom will take place on Wednesday 3rd More information to come shortly via a letter for students to sign up.
  2. The date for Crossover parents evening has changed and will now take place on Tuesday 6th This is an invite only event for parents/carers whose child is not currently predicted to achieve English and/or Maths to a grade 4 or higher and currently sitting on a grade 3. You will receive a letter shortly if this applies to you to attend with your child.
  3. GCSE Results Day has been confirmed and will take place on the morning of Thursday 22nd August at Hans Price Academy.

PPE2 Timetable

Students will sit their second round of PPEs from Monday 5th February to Friday 1st March which are their final reporting exams before their official exams in the Summer. Please see the final PPE2 timetable attached to the letter.

Students will be given another PPE planner including numerous key pages such as a personalised learning checklist, Direct Study focus pages and tips/pointers for how to revise well. Please regularly ask to see their planner during the PPE season to support the work and revision they are completing at home.

Revision books on ScoPay

If you have not yet purchased revision guides for your child for the subjects they have chosen, you have the opportunity to purchase these via ‘Scopay’ which can be found on the Hans Price Academy website. The revision guides are specifically chosen for each course your child is taking and are designed to consolidate and support the work we do at school by strengthening their understanding of the topics covered, as well as providing opportunities for them to practise the skills learnt. These guides cover all the topics which will be studied throughout their GCSE course ready for their summer exam.

If you have any questions around these or need support to purchase in the current financial climate, please contact me on my email below.

Toast Its

Toast Its will continue to run during the PPE and summer exam window as they did in the first PPE window at the beginning of Year 11. A reminder that when your child has an exam that morning, they are expected to be in school for 8am for a session with their teacher where they will get final tips for the exam. This gives students a chance to ask any questions and get settled before going into the exam. Our Toast It sessions prepare students for their exams and our research shows the vast majority of students who just make the next grade boundary are those who have attended the toast it beforehand.

Nightclub

As part of our provision to support Year 11, during term 3 is our “Nightclub” launch. Nightclub is a provision run by the Senior Leadership Team and Year 11 team at HPA to offer an opportunity to support students to complete their independent study (homework) and revision with the resources available in the academy. At each “nightclub”, students have the opportunity for a break between Period 7 and 4.15pm where a snack is available in the canteen, or students may choose to leave site and return for a 4.15pm start where they can then choose a room to study in with a preferred learning mode. Options include an exam practice room, group learning space and library room. In each room, a member of the leadership team or an academic mentor is available to support learning.  Nightclub will start on Wednesday 31st January.

Half term sessions

As noted in all communications home since Year 10, we have set aside several key dates in the holidays to prioritise Year 11 students. We strongly request that families prioritise these dates so that students are available when called for targeted intervention to help secure their grades due to the quality time in small group learning with subject experts.

Should a student also miss a PPE prior to half term, they will be requested to come in to complete their paper during the half term break (to also provide any Access Arrangements) ensuring their workload upon return is manageable and they receive their feedback at the same time as their peers. Parents/Carers will receive a letter home informing them when their child has been called in for intervention before each half term.

  • Tuesday 13th to Thursday 15th February
  • Tuesday 2nd to Friday 5th April
  • Monday 27th to Friday 31st April

As always, if you have any questions regarding the Year 11 journey at HPA, please do not hesitate to get in touch with either myself, your child’s form tutor or by using the HPA phone number.

Miss Dale
