Year 10 End of Year Letter and ‘Dates for the Fridge’.
Dear Parent/Carer,
As we get to the end of Year 10, I wanted to take the opportunity to share with you some updates and reminders ready for Year 11, as well as signposting some important contact information ready for the year ahead. Year 10 have seen some remarkable success this year from Work Experience to outstanding PPE results, where feedback on the culture of the year group throughout, was exceptional.
Year 11 Academy Day
As mentioned on our website, I would like to remind you of the academy day timings:
Monday | 8:35am – 3:00pm |
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday | 8:35am – 3:50pm |
These timings are compulsory for all Year 11 students, and we thank you in advance for upholding its importance by arranging any appointments for your child outside of this time.
Post-16 Support
As an academy, we strive to support families with Post-16 applications and ensure that our students have access to up to date and relevant information to inform their choices. During the start of Year 11, we host Post-16 assemblies from a variety of providers promoting a range of options including College, Sixth-Form and apprenticeship routes. Every child in Year 11 will also receive a 1:1 session with Jackie Fielding, our Careers Advisor. As a school, we can support students with their applications, but we strongly recommend families attend open day events in the community for their top choice selections. As a guide, all students in Year 11 should have made 3 applications to Post-16 providers by the Christmas holidays. If you feel you would like support with this or would like to attend your child’s 1:1 meeting to better understand the application process, please contact Jackie directly via email [email protected].
Tassomai & Summer Independent Study
Rest over the summer for students is of great importance, so we encourage this for Year 10. However, it is also important to continue some revision and learning to support your child to make more progress when they return in September. To support this, we strongly encourage all students to continue to achieve their Tassomai daily goals, work on their Dr Frost and work through the English resources highlighted on the separate letter sent to you by the English department. When we return in September there will be rewards available for those who complete their work to a good standard.
Dates for the fridge
Included with this letter is a Dates for the fridge 2023-2024 (this is subject to change) for you to keep on display at home. I hope this may be of use when planning for the year ahead including any family holidays to book and to better understand your child’s journey towards their GCSEs. Some of these dates will be confirmed in the new academic year, particularly around the holiday revision sessions. As a guide, we usually hold 2 days in October half-term and 3 in the first week of the Easter Holidays for targeted student groups covering roughly 70% of the cohort, with 3 days in the May half term for all students. We do see significant impact with these sessions allowing for greater depth of knowledge to be gained and really do appreciate the implications on holiday planning, which is why we will send the dates out as soon as possible in September.
If you have any questions regarding the above key areas, or have a question around the Year 11 journey, please get in touch either using the school contact number or directly via email: [email protected]
Yours sincerely,
Ms Charli Dale
