Information letter regarding hot weather, sports day and last day of term
10 July 2022
Dear Parents and Carers,
In this letter:
- Arrangements for hot weather
- Sports day
- The last day of term
Hot Weather
From the weather forecasts over the weekend, it looks like this period of hot weather may continue into the week ahead. When the temperature in the academy rises to higher than the usual 21-23 degrees, we will let the students know that they do not need to wear their blazer as they move around the academy. We call this our “shirt sleeve order.” Students should still be wearing their blazer as they walk into the academy in the morning. If your child would be more comfortable in shorts, please do check the website for guidance on acceptable shorts before you purchase anything new. Shorts should be tailored and not sports-style shorts. Please also note that jeans, miniskirts and lycra/stretchy skirts of any length are not within our uniform rules.
All students should bring a reusable water bottle with them to school. We are a single-use plastic-free school. Bottle fillers are available in several locations around the academy. Jugs of water and cups are available in the canteen at break and lunchtime. Students should fill their bottles during their break times. We ask parents to join us in encouraging students to manage their time correctly, and not expect to be late to lessons or requesting permission to leave the room during learning time in order to fill bottles. Please also remind your children that our receptionists do not keep cups for student use, except in first aid emergencies. If your child has come to school without their bottle, they should use the cups available at break times. Please ensure your child applies sun cream before setting off for school in the morning. However, students are permitted to remain indoors during breaks and so can stay out of the sun entirely, if they prefer.
Sports Day
It is sports day on Tuesday, and since the weather is likely to be hot and sunny, please take usual precautions with your child’s sun safety. Please send them to school with a hat/cap to wear when they are on the field, as well as their refillable water bottle. There will be water filling stations on the field throughout the afternoon. We are not allowed to give students suncream ourselves, so please make sure your child has applied sun protection at home and bring additional with them to apply throughout the day. We are delighted that so many parents wish to attend the sports day this year and are extending the number of tickets available on Eventbrite. Please do not attend if you have not signed up in this way. We need to keep a record of who attends, for safeguarding reasons. Please also bring a rug and/or camping chair with you. We expect to have more spectators than bench seating this year!
The last day of term
The last day of term is Thursday 21 July 2022. We will be teaching the curriculum until the very last day, so attendance at school remains vital. The final of the College Cup will take place on Thursday morning, which is a hugely popular, celebratory event for the whole school. Food will be available in the canteen at morning break. Students will be dismissed at 12:45pm, so those wishing to eat at school should do so at break time. The first day back for all students is Monday 5th September 2022. Staff will be in for two training days on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd September.
Thank you for your continuing support. As always, please do email us on [email protected] if you have any queries about the information in this letter.
Yours faithfully
Mrs H. Jones
Interim Principal
