EU Referendum

Students were deeply involved with this year’s hottest topic when they held their own European Referendum.  Year 10       students Ella-May Penn-Dickens, Hattie Wood and Chanelle Ling argued that Britain should leave the EU, with Flynn Allier, Alice Cullen, Nichole Tomlinson and Archie Thompson contended we should stay.  The students debated the topic admirably in a live debate which was recorded and shown to the whole school.

Not only that but the students received a lot of media coverage appearing in newspapers and on websites but most excitingly Hattie and Archie appeared live on BBC Radio Bristol’s breakfast show!  Both students were nervous but did   really well in their first live interview.

The referendum was held on the same day as the national election and the students voted                   overwhelmingly (72{7d5876a23d8da0b76fc0eb33db0be064ebe9a6fb0ef237885397a6bdb4c3e288}) to remain in the EU.  They also bucked the trend for young people and over 70{7d5876a23d8da0b76fc0eb33db0be064ebe9a6fb0ef237885397a6bdb4c3e288} turned out to vote!

Students demonstrated amazing research skills and debating techniques which will serve them well in the future.

Fun Day 2016

We held our ‘2nd’ annual fun day on Saturday 11th June from 11am – 3pm.  We were extremely lucky with the weather considering it was forecasted to rain that day, but here at Hans Price Academy nothing dampens our spirits.  It was an amazing fun filled day with bouncy castles workshops and displays.  Our ‘We Will Rock You’ cast gave us a little sample of what was to come in their production, which wet our appetite to go and see the full performance, which was truly amazing!

The art workshop and ICT workshops were massive hits with young and old alike and as ever our sports activities were completely full all day, especially the climbing wall!  The free hog roast and BBQ went down particularly well with everyone and this was complimented with the ice cream van and candy floss stall.

I would like to say a massive thank you to our students and staff for all their help in ensuring this day could run, we had so many amazing comments from those attending at how fabulous they all were – Hans Price Academy really is a family and pulls together to produce fantastic events because of the love for the place.

Over 800 people visited the Academy and we will definitely be holding this event again next year in May.
